The 'Why'
Processes and procedures are used to define the way individuals, teams, and even entire organizations function. They are a recipe that outlines how something is to be done. Creating processes can have several benefits to the bottom line of an organization, including: shorter time-frames in completing tasks, the ability to create metrics around required work, and perform gap analysis (by looking at what is happening versus what should be happening to get things done).
The Bottom Line
Creating processes takes discipline but forces a business to clearly outline what needs to get done. There is a cost associated to getting processes in place, and this cost far outweighs the benefits. These benefits include: getting new people up to speed quicker, getting consistent results, increasing throughput, and having a work base that is more satisfied with their individual achievements.
