Controls

Philosophy

Proper controls is fundamental to achieving business objectives, with the success of capital projects leading to long-term growth. Excellent controls relies on clean datasets and proper processes, when these are combined with the right software, a clear reflection of the project can be obtained through all phases of a project's lifecycle.

Common Challenges

As controls software becomes more complex and datasets larger, the ability to effectively control the project becomes more specialized. New skill sets are required; good controls are no longer a matter of working with a few Excel spreadsheets.

A successful controller in today's project landscape needs to understand complex software packages, such as: SAP, EcoSys, Prism, Primavera, custom-built databases, and still be very advanced in Excel. Of course, this is in addition to the other fundemental skills required , like: excellent problem solving, analysis, forecasting, and outstanding communication skills.
